Ministry to work with rural communities

Empowering the rural population through training in food processing and other value addition activity is one of the major focuses of the Agriculture Ministry.

Agriculture Permanent Secretary, Jitendra Singh says the Ministry of Agriculture is collaborating with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization to strengthen the capacity of rural communities to process and market local food.

“The Ministry will work with rural communities especially rural women and youth in developing small scale commodities value addition activities in producing sage and nutritious safe foods.”

FAO funding for the Project is six hundred thousand dollars in addition to providing technical assistance and necessary support to the Ministry to implement the project.

Through this assistance, the Ministry will work with three communities namely Verata Wailevu, Nabulini and Homes of Hope to process and market local safe food produce.
