The Health Ministry is on high alert, taking all precautions to address the threat of the Zika virus.
Minister Jone Usamate has delivered a statement in Parliament updating the House on how well prepared his teams are.
Usamate says the Ministry of Health has intensified its surveillance as more Zika cases emerge from neighbouring countries.
“One of the things we need the public to be aware of is that there are people traveling with disease from any affected countries – if they have any symptoms they need to present themselves to health centres so they can be tested so we can be sure to see if they have this condition of not.”
Usamate says the Ministry’s vector control unit, border control agencies, and the Centre for Communicable Diseases are on high alert.
Private Medical practitioners and doctors at health facilities are being urged to inform the ministry immediately if they find any suspected cases.
