A total of 112 cases of teenage pregnancy were recorded from January to November last year by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation’s Child Services Unit.
Unit Assistant Director, Ela Tukutukulevu says this issue is currently on the rise and relevant stake holders should work in collaboration to reduce the increase.
”As a department we try to raise awareness to parents and caregivers on the care of children so this is the divisional level also we get invitations to speak to different forums to try and encourage parents and care givers to really spend the time with children caring for them.”
Tukutukulevu says parents of pregnant teenagers are send for counseling as they work to get teenagers affected back to school.
Meanwhile child neglect tops the list with 259 cases.
