Ministry of Health deploys 18 teams

The Ministry of Health has deployed 18 teams to the six sub divisions in the western division to provide timely interventions to the flood affected areas.

Spokesperson Peni Namotu says the team will be there for three weeks and will also provide vital information to their headquarters in Suva before any assistance is provided.

Namotu says 25,000 purification tablets already distributed to the affected areas .

“Team one will be looking into the environment and basically to see that proper sanitation condition are considered for e.g. toilet facilities are in a proper condition and people have to have safe drinking water and the second team will be looking at food contamination while the third team will be focussing on the disease surveillance .”

The ministry is thankful to the Fiji National University for providing 10 third year environment students and ten trainee medical officers to assist them.
