Ministry monitors typhoid cases on Moturiki Island

Reports of typhoid cases are being monitored by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services on Moturiki Island in the Lomaiviti group.

The health team has taken prompt action to assist the communities to strengthen the clinical management in accordance with the National Typhoid Guideline.

The team based at the Levuka Hospital is working with the communities on the Island to create awareness and facilitate counselling on the precautionary measures which include safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

The Ministry has also distributed hand washing and safe water storage kits.

Thirteen patients who were diagnosed with typhoid on the Island have been treated with the required medical care as the team continues to monitor the situation.
