Ministry monitors refrigeration and air conditioning sector

The increasing threats of ozone depletion has triggered the Environment Ministry to monitor the refrigeration and air conditioning sector.

Environment Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy says Fiji has taken a leadership role in the fight against climate change and is taking steps to make improvements in all sectors.

Reddy says proper procedures should be taken if people want to venture into the business sector to help protect our environment.

“We have to protect the environment that there is no short cuts to processing application, we have the due diligent that is required to examine proposals and it also require level of intellect and expertise in the area.”

Outgoing Permanent Secretary Joshua Wycliffe has urged the various sectors to collaborate closely with the ministry on future plans.

Wycliffe says they are also working to ensure that plans are in place to help meet the demands of business operators, workers and relevant stake holders in the sector.

The Ministry is urging stakeholders to work together and update plans and policies to allow a smoother transition to other alternatives when Hydrochlorofluorocarbon is phased out by 2030.
