The Ministry for Land & Mineral Resources is working towards bringing in a new legislation called Property Evaluation Act.

The Act will see a major change in the way the property market operates in Fiji and help to regulate the practices of the values in Fiji.

Deputy Secretary Malakai Nalawa says Fiji has not had such an Act in place but this could change in the near future.

“So far we do not have a property Evaluation Act and being the hub of the pacific it’s unfortunate that we do not have that in place. Vanuatu has got theirs as well as the Solomons and PNG.”

He adds the Ministry is currently working on a draft which will be presented to Cabinet – after which they will carry out consultations with the public.
