Ministry develops National Employment Policy

The Employment Ministry is developing a National Employment Policy to enhance the dynamics of the labour market.

Speaking in parliament this morning Labour Minister – Semi Koroilavesau this is done in an effort to better understand Fiji’s labour market.

Koroilavesau says the government has for the first time through the National Employment Centre captured the real data on unemployment.

“This policy allows the unemployed to choose freely their employment preferences, whether to join the formal employment service or self employment service, foreign employment service or to become a volunteer including becoming a professional sports person.”

The Foreign Employment Services is also reviewing its criteria to target disadvantaged, unemployed people in isolated rural areas and outer islands.
