The Ministry of Agriculture has started assisting farmers in the Western division who are currently affected by the El Nino.

The Ministry has so far distributed 33 mobile water pumps, mobile irrigation systems, identifying production scale, cut and carry green feed from pastures for livestock farms and also transporting supplementary food to ensure that livestock is well nourished.

Principle Agriculture Officer Western Vinesh Kumar says they have also distributed 55 bags of copra, 211 drums of molasses, 186 bags of mill mix, mineral supplements, subsidized dairy mesh, and provided 127 water tanks to 107 individuals and 20 areas.

The most affected areas in agriculture are the north-western region of Viti Levu in Ba, Tavua and Vatukoula.
