Environment Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy is urging household heads not to send organic or green waste to dump sites.
Dr. Reddy says the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will start a nationwide program of recycling organic waste within our backyards rather than sending it to dump sites.
He says his ministries will work with everyone in dealing with gaps in the national strategy for waste management.
“Eventually when capacity becomes constrained, then these waste materials would become a threat to the environment. We have to start dealing with this problem before it becomes a threat to the environment.”
Dr. Reddy says the planned nationwide programme will be an example of a self-sustaining system and the Environment Ministry says it will be based on sound principles of waste minimization.
