Minister shares impacts of climate change on international stage

Fish and fisheries are part of the rich fabric of life in Fiji and in the entire Pacific region.

This was highlighted by Minister responsible, Semi Koroilavesau while speaking at the plenary session on “Climate Change Impact on Pacific Fisheries in Reykjavik, Iceland over the weekend.

Koroilavesau says fish play a vital role in local food security and in creating opportunities to earn income. He adds that fish also underpins economic development in many Pacific Island countries.

The minister also shared the impacts of climate change to Fiji as experienced with frequent natural disasters such as TC Winston.

Koroilavesau concluded by calling on countries to strive to ‘limit global warming to 1.5 degrees by the end of the century in line with the Paris Accord.
