Recently the Ministry of Waterways conducted maintenance work in the drainage system of Qelewaqa Labasa areas.

Minister for waterways Dr Mahendra Reddy says further maintenance work will be carried out after detailed data is received on each the surrounding waterways, rivers and streams

“The real work going forward the nest 3 to 4 years will be how we manage our catchment area our watersheds. We need to understand what is happening in our catchment and water shed, we need to demarcate and map out entire catchment areas which we haven’t done at the moment.”

In addition, a soil test will also be done to develop a master strategy to manage the catchment areas.
