Fijians to make a difference for our elders: Vuniwaqa

Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa says not only are Fijians living longer but they’re also living with disability.

This was emphasized by the Minister while officiating at the National Council of Older Persons (NCOP) Council Meeting, saying that elderly persons are more likely to need some help in their day-to-day living.

She has called on the public to assist the government make a difference in the lives of our elders.

She adds the only way to achieve this is by consulting older persons themselves, using them as champions for the agenda of older persons.

The Minister adds it must also include remunerating them as part of bridging the gap on social protection and tapping on the retiree’s potential of adding greater value to the development agenda for the aged in Fiji.

Meanwhile, the National Council of Older Persons advocates, liaises on behalf of and represents the best interests of older persons in Fiji.
