Mining Act under review

Fiji’s Mining Act is currently being reviewed by government.

Assistant Director Mining Venasio Nasara says landowners’ interest will be a key component of this review.

He says the Mineral Exploration and Exploitation Bill is the reviewing format of the current Mining Act and is being looked at by Government.

He says the rights, benefits and compensation of landowners will be enshrined in the Bill before the revocation of the Act.

It is understood there are a lot of loopholes in the current Act when it comes to landowner’s issues and rights.
