The first ever veterinary hospital and shelter in Fiji have opened in Legalega, Nadi.

The Pacific Animal Shelter and Hospital took at least two years to build the million dollar facility.

Trustee Marie Peyman says the shelter will provide low or no cost medical care for domestic animals.

She says the initial funding for the land and building costs were provided by an American expat.

Peyman says they currently have a vet staying in the compound.

She adds they’re hoping that Fijians utilize the shelter for their pets.
