Military must exercise restraint

September 21, 2015 7:20 pm

Opposition MP Tupou Draunidalo has brought attention to the powers of the Fiji Military Forces.

In a lengthy address in parliament yesterday, the National Federation Party President called on the RFMF to exercise restraint in the use of its powers.

“The Military must understand that the wide powers given to them meant that they are no longer political football of the elected government to be used in political fights between political parties, this elected government or any other in the future.”

Draunidalo’s response to the President’s speech focused mainly on the military and its involvement in Fiji’s history of coups.

She says the RFMF has the discretion NOT to act on politically motivated directives and refuse orders which are not consistent with good.
