Military involvement will not hinder EVR: AG

The registration of voters that will commence in a couple of weeks is not a political issue says Elections Minister – Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Sayed-Khaiyum says just because a military person heads the logistical team it does not mean that the process will be jeopardised.

His comment follows after concerns were raised by overseas Ministers and local politicians on appointing Isoa Loanakadavu to head the logistics team.

“This is purely a logistical exercise, this is purely to get the job done, by having RFMF it does not mean by anyway that you are somehow sophisticating the system, somehow or the other you are altering the system, somehow the RFMF is going around planting a bug. I mean these are all superfluous comments made by certain politicians and we all need to work as a nation to ensure that logistics is worked out and everybody gets registered so that everybody can have a vote.”

The Elections Office is looking for venues where voters will register, mainly in the urban centers.

1150 of these venues have been indentified across the country.
