MIDA expects changes in reporting

July 15, 2015 6:49 pm

The Media Industry Development Authority expects to see changes in the way journalists report following the removal of the thousand dollar fine imposed on them in the Media Decree.

MIDA Chairman, Ashwin Raj says this is a positive move by the government.

“For instance, it is not the ordinary journalist, who at the end of the day decides what goes out into the news and what makes the news – it is essentially is the responsibility of the power brokers in the newsroom, so that entails your publishers, your editors, and so forth. So it basically shifts the burden of responsibility to this power brokers and therefore engineering a greater ethos of transparency and accountability in the newsroom.”
