Micro and Small Business Grants to continue indefinitely

October 21, 2015 6:57 pm

Government will continue with the Micro and Small Business Grants indefinitely.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed this at the handing over of the grants to 226 individuals and businesses in Ba yesterday afternoon.

Bainimarama says government realizes that they are not only filling a need by assisting people who would otherwise face a challenge putting $1000 aside towards their businesses- but it is also a very cost-effective way of generally boosting the Fijian economy.

He stressed that the grants are not a handout from government.

2,877 Fijians have so far been assisted under the Micro and Small Business Grants.

Earlier yesterday morning, Bainimarama handed out the $1,000 grants to 531 people in Ra.

At the grant hand-over, recipients do not receive the $1,000 grant in cash.

Rather, they receive certificates which they will take to the Fiji Development Bank officers and they will be presented a cheque made out to the supplier of whatever resources or materials required.

The cheque is then taken to the supplier to get the goods.
