Concerns with the MHCC complex in Suva has led to several consultations between the Occupational, Health and Safety Unit, Suva City Council, MHCC management and their engineers.
The issue came to light after MHCC closed their carpark earlier this week with photos on social media showing cracked pavements and support props put in place.
In an emailed response to FBC News, the OHS Director Tomasi Kama revealed that they are aware of the issue and are currently in the process of talks with the MHCC management, their Engineers and other stakeholders.
Suva City Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Bijay Chand says they too have also held talks with the MHCC’s management and continue to carry out joint inspections whilst deliberating on the next course of action.
MHCC’s Manager Properties Daniel Whippy says while they’ve identified areas where remedial work is required, the building is structurally safe.
