MH refutes claims of fire scam

October 15, 2015 1:33 am

MH Group Retail and Marketing Director Kunaseelan Sabaratnam has refuted claims on social media that last night’s fire at their Nabua branch was a ploy to get an insurance claim.

Sabaratnam told FBC News that this is simply not true and that they are doing all they can to get back on track.

“There is no intention to it and we are all shocked too because we are coming towards Christmas and Diwali and this is the best time for trading so I will disregard whatever is on social media. People must understand that this happens.”

Sabaratnam says that none of the 28 staff from the MH Nabua branch have lost their jobs, because they’ve all been transferred to different branches while others have taken paid leave.

He adds that history has proven that after such fires MH has always bounced back and is one of the largest employers of people in Fiji.

There have been a spate of fires in MH Supermarkets in recent time, with its shops in Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, Labasa and Levuka destroyed.
