Methodist ministers receive $7,000 upon retirement

August 22, 2019 4:45 pm

All Methodist Church ministers receive $7,000 when they retire at the age of 70.

This was revealed by the Church President Reverend Dr. Epineri Vakadewavosa.

This follows a proposal being put forward by some of the conference members to increase the money received by ministers upon retirement.

However, this motion was defeated following the advice of the church’s lawyers that more new projects are coming up which requires financial support.

Church Communications Secretary Wilfred Regunamada says the money given to ministers during their retirement is the income gained from the Epworth House leases.

“The Epworth House was built for the retirement plans of ministers that is the purpose and it will remain.”

Regunamada says if the minister passes away during his or her term, the money will be transferred to their next of kin.

The Methodist Conference ends tomorrow.
