Methodist Church to question government on paying chaplains

August 22, 2019 6:15 am

A letter will be sent by the Methodist Church to the government to question its consistency on paying school chaplains.

This follows a proposal by a church member during the Methodist Church conference yesterday.

The proposal highlighted the halt in payment of school chaplains in government schools by 2020 while they will continue to pay chaplains in other government agencies such as the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces and the Police Force to name a few.

Church Communications Secretary Wilfred Regunamada says they have agreed that the query has to be raised with the authorities.

“It was a proposal by a representative member, he proposed if the church could write a letter and questioned the government its consistency of financial supporting a chaplain and that responsibility will be done the General Secretary’s office.”

The Methodist Church will in the meantime, pay for all government and Methodist School chaplains from next year.

The Annual Methodist Church conference continue this morning.
