Methodist Church ministers reminded to be apolitical

August 13, 2018 7:09 pm

Methodist Church ministers will be reminded again in their conference meeting next week to remain apolitical.

Acting General Secretary Reverend Jeremaia Waqainabete told FBC News they have received comments from people about some ministers being involved in politics.

Waqainabete says they will continue to advise church ministers their participation for any political parties will not be tolerated, however, tough decisions will have to be made.

“So it is very critical to say that the church should not involve themselves in politics, if there are political systems and structures that takes away the totality of a person’s humanity, it is the duty of the church to address this.”

Church President Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa earlier told FBC News that strict actions will be taken as the constitution of the church is clear on its stand about involvement in politics.

The Methodist Church Conference is currently underway whilst the formal meeting will begin next Monday.
