Meningococcal vaccination program rolls out from tomorrow

More than three hundred and thirty-three thousand children under the age of nineteen will start receiving vaccinations from tomorrow as the nationwide meningococcal vaccination campaign rolls out.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services through its partners have acquired one hundred and twenty-four thousand doses of vaccine while the remaining two hundred-thousand doses are expected to arrive soon.

UNICEF Deputy Representative Vathinee Jitjaturunt says through the support of UNICEF, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services acquired 124,830 doses of meningococcal vaccination.

“The national meningococcal immunization campaign is a massive undertaking. The mobilization of people and resources to help ensure that families are fully aware of the campaign and also to reach and vaccinate all 12 months to 19 year old in the country in no easy task. In addition to the vaccines it is important for people to take preventative measures to protect against this illness.”

She has also urged communities and families to understand the purpose of the vaccination program and benefits for those under nineteen years.
