Men have a shorter life span than women: Dr Koroivueta

Men have a life span which is six to eight years shorter than women and this trend is seen worldwide.

This was highlighted by the Ministry of Children and Women’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Josefa Koroivueta who says that studies have shown that women have a better quality of life.

“At the moment there’s more of the younger generation and it’s a different period. It’s something like 70% are below the age of 40 at this point in time. We expect that we will be aging more but the other thing that we do know that women age better than men. They live longer and they also have a better quality of life.”

Koroivueta says a demography also shows that by 2050, there will be more elderly people in Fiji compared to the younger generation.
