Men-C vaccines to arrive in the country tomorrow

The first batch of the Meningococcal Vaccine, which will be distributed free to Fijians will arrive into the country tomorrow.

Due to the high demand for vaccines around the world, the Ministry of Health managed to procure more than 100 thousand doses of vaccine for the first batch of the immunization programme.

Acting National Advisor for Communicable Disease Dr Alisha Sahukhan says they are expected to start their meningococcal immunization programme soon with the arrival of the vaccines and they have done this without any delay.

“So there have been no delays in the response and the roll out of the programme as madam Minister have mentioned tomorrow the first batch is arriving in the country.”

The Health Ministry has confirmed the immunization programme will start on the 14th of this month.

People under the age of 19 will be vaccinated as this is the age group who are at risk of getting the disease.
