December 17, 2015 12:52 pm

The Attorney General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was chief guest at the official ground breaking ceremony of the $23m PMeghi Hotel at Lautoka’s iconic Shirley Park this morning.

The project which will see a seven storey building become a landmark along the Lautoka City foreshore has been hailed among the other major developments taking place in the Sugar City.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the initiative taken by the PMeghi Group of companies to invest in a multi-million dollar facility in the Sugar City is indicative of the promise they see in Lautoka being tourist city of the future.

He adds despite being the second only other City in Fiji, the room inventory in Lautoka has been very low, the ability of the City to host international events, even national events is also very limited.

Sayed-Khaiyum said with the culmination of a number of projects around the City, like the one in the near future, Lautoka will be able to host major events, so this is a great initiative by the PMehgi Group of Companies.

The two-year project is expected to start as early as January and be completed by mid-2017.
