Meeting to discuss assistance for Ono-i-Lau

A DISMAC committee meeting is likely to be called today to discuss how quick the government can provide assistance to the people in Ono-i-Lau.

This follows damage to crops and houses in parts of Ono-I-Lau after strong winds and heavy rain brought on by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

National Disaster Management Office director Akapusi Tuifagalele told FBC news a quick action is needed to help people affected.

“I’m preempting here that we will be sending another team to do the detail sectorial assessment just to verify what has been provided by the Turaga-ni-Koro in the initial damage assessment reports.”

Schools in the Lau Group are expected to open today.
