Getting the right and most clear information out to the public is the focus for mainstream media in this year’s general election.
Communications Fiji Limited News Director, Vijay Narayan says the focus is to give the right information to the public.
“The whole team got involved, we got about 150 plus employees, they did their bit to ensure that we have a successful coverage, to ensure that majority of the people get to listen to what the election result is about and we continue to do that.”
Fiji Broadcasting Corporation News Manager Indra Singh says while it has been a tough week for media organizations, it’s vital that journalists, cameraman and those involved in the election coverage enjoy their work.
“It was one of the most enjoyable experience for the team. We had a great work ethic from everyone involved, the hard work put in by the journalists who followed ethics and rules to ensure the coverage that was given to Fijians was of absolute highest standard.”
MIDA Chair Ashwin Raj says the mainstream media has done a very professional job.
“The mainstream media has conducted themselves with utmost professionalism in covering the general election and they have done it in the most robust manner. They have ensured full compliance of section 118 of the electoral act as it pertains to the blackout period.”
Meanwhile, a new government is to be announced in the next two days.
