Measles immunization campaign expected to complete by Christmas

The Ministry of Health hopes to complete its measles immunization campaign by Christmas.

More than 200,000 Fijians have been immunized since the outbreak in November.

Head of Health Protection, Dr Aalisha Sahukhan says health workers out on the ground have been challenged to complete the measles immunization campaign in two weeks.

We have the aim of completing the campaign by Christmas.  So you will notice on our Christmas advisory and media releases, we got the #vaccinatebychristmas. This is the challenge put out to all our health staff on the ground who are going out every day to vaccinate as many people in the target groups as they can. They are try and finish this campaign by Christmas

The Ministry has expanded the campaign across Fiji.

It will continue to target people who are most at risk of being infected by measles and spreading the disease.

The campaign will continue in Central Division and started in Western and Eastern Divisions yesterday.

The people in the Northern Division will start getting vaccine from Monday.
