Archbishop Petero Mataca has passed away.

The late Archbishop died at the Suva Private Hospital yesterday morning after a long illness.

He led the Catholic church in Fiji and Rotuma for 40 years before retiring to hand over the reins to Archbishop Peter Loy Chong 2 years ago.

Funeral details are expected to be released later.
