Months of preparation has paid off for the MATA dance group who were crowned winners at the Hip Hop International South Pacific dance competition.
The 20-member group went through so many difficulties and struggles to earn them the top spot in New Zealand.
This means they will now represent Fiji to the World hip hop dance championship in USA in August.
Group Choreographer Tevita Tobeyaweni says the set and routine performed in New Zealand showed what hip-hop means to young Fijians nowadays and what its culture is to Fiji.
He says their main focus is based on showing the hip-hop dance culture in Fiji as it has changed from what it used to be back in the day.
The young group went up against the best hip-hop dancers from around the region but their main focus now is challenging the world’s best hip-hop dancers.
The team will return home, rest before beginning preparations for the US championship.
