January 25, 2019 12:45 pm

The Social Welfare Department’s Child Services recorded only four cases of malnutrition in 2018.

Child Services Assistant Director Ela Tukutukulevu says this is a major decrease compared to 23 cases recorded in 2017.

Tukutukulevu says this is the lowest recorded since 2012.

She adds parents need to be more responsible if we want to record nil cases of malnutrition this year.

“These are cases received from the hospitals and I believe from the diagnosis, from the reports from hospital, we find that some children suffer from malnutrition because they are not being fed well. Parents do not take seriously to look into what children eat.”

Tukutukulevu says despite the drop in the number of malnutrition cases, they will continue to work with parents to ensure the statistics are further reduced.

Child Services have recorded 121 malnutrition cases since 2012.
