Francois Martel is the new Secretary General for the Pacific Islands Development Forum.
French Polynesian Martel, who works for the Tokelau Government as its Climate Change and COP2 Adviser, has more than three decades of experience in the area of climate change bio-diversity.
Martel says the onus will be on the forum to form strong alliances in the lead up to the global climate change conference in Paris, France in November.
‘’The main focus now is to extract all the ideas and suggestions and from this particular summit and turn that into a strategic plan that you can then implement. So you will remember Amena Yauvoli – PIDF Interim SG put up a slide which showed what we have done and all we have to do to take the organisation to the next level’’.
Based in Samoa, Martel has also been one the leading drafters of the PIDF’s charter which is the framework of the organization.
Martel officially starts work on the 19th of October taking over from the interim SG Amena Yauvoli.
