October 23, 2015 5:02 am

Vendors at the Ba, Lautoka and Labasa markets will soon see development of their market structures.

As part of its “Market for Change” project, the UN Women is providing a funding of eight hundred and seventy two thousand dollars to assist the three town councils to help improve the lives of the market vendors.

Local Government Minister, Praveen Kumar, says this will mean concrete pavement, table stalls and benches for Ba Municipal Market, women vendors’ accommodation and resource centre in Labasa market, while Lautoka market will cater for more stalls.

“The ten municipalities are part of this program and three of them have already got the assistance. There are some processes to this and once all the process is done with the other seven, they will also be assisted.”

It’s expected the UN Women will soon provide funding for market upgrade in other parts of the country as well.
