There’s a need to improve market conditions for the most marginalised women in the country says the UN women organisation.
UN women chief technical adviser Elizabeth Cox says it’s about ending poverty and helping women earn more money to take back home to their families.
More attention needs to be paid to the efforts of the rural women to supply the fresh foods and earn an income for their family and their particular needs around this work of trading in the market.
More than 70 per cent of market vendors in the country are made up of women.
So the conditions in the market place should allow the women to diversify not necessarily being in competition with each other.
Cox says she has noticed how women market vendors struggle to make ends meet.
