The increase of sea days by Fiji Navy in 2019 has been supported by Police.

Sea days is the time spent by navy officials at sea, aimed at surveying and guarding Fiji waters.

Acting Police Commissioner, ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the increased sea days was a bold step by the navy.

Tudravu adds considering the high level of transnational crimes currently faced this decision will be beneficial.

Police says they are ready to support and assist its counterpart in their security protection initiative.

“We know that transnational crime is an emerging trend and is being channeled through our seas, therefore, this initiative is very encouraging.”

Fiji Navy is looking at increasing the current sea days of 180 to more than 200 days this year.
