Increase in sea days to deter illegal immigrants

An increase in sea days for the Fiji Navy will enhance visibility in our Fiji waters.

Navy Commander Captain Humphrey Tawake says they’re looking at increasing sea days from 180 days to 200 days – an increase of 20 days.

He says this is part of their role to ensuring the safety of our country.

Captain Tawake says there’s also a need to put in place strategies that will act as a deterrent to those who wish to enter our shores illegally.

The Navy Commander says this is one of their priority area they’re working on to improve this year.
