Maritime Training Facilities needs more resources

May 20, 2019 7:25 am

The maritime training facilities needs to be resourced adequately to enhance the competency of women in the maritime sector.

Fiji Women in Maritime Association President Jane Koi says the training facility needs both financial and human resources.

“Government can do much more to do a wider take up of sea career for example training of jobless persons and promoting shipping as careers for women. Awareness in newspapers and online publication is crucial in bringing about the visibility of women in the sector. And it’s also used to circulate training opportunities regionally and internationally.”

Koi says the Association through its partnership with MSAF has enabled its members to attend international trainings for women to build their capacity.

The Fiji WIMA launched in September of 2016 now have 40 members.
