A small community outside Suva are on standby to evacuate if the need arises.

Flood waters had reached the compounds of many residents at the Maravu village.

One resident Tagimuri Kolinisau says continuous heavy rain over the past few days resulted into flash flooding in his area… which also brought debris in his compound.

”Flooding started on Thursday, yesterday was little bit but today it has been raining heavily and I don’t know when it will start flooding again. If it does flood again then we will have no choice but to look for a place elsewhere, where there is no flood.”

Forty other families live in this area and they say flooding is nothing new to them.

Another resident Tomasi Vakarawa says previously when the area flooded, he had to call the officers at the Valelevu Police Station to take them to a high ground.

The residents have packed their essentials and will evacuate as and when the need arises.
