The famous anti-apartheid Nelson Mandela was remembered by a few people at the University of the South Pacific last night.

Speaking at the Mandela Day, Chief Justice Anthony Gates says such day is a celebration of the fight for social justice, reconciliation and unity amongst other issues.

Gates says that if Mandela was still alive, he would be involved in climate talks that Fiji leads in the current COP23.

“For all of Mandela’s efforts to encourage reconciliation, I feel sure he would have approved of Fiji’s Talanoa approach. It has become an attractive byword in the COP23 deliberations in Bonn and elsewhere.”

Mandela Day was celebrated across the globe yesterday.
