A 27-year-old man who pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated robbery has been sentenced to 9 years and 10 months imprisonment by the Suva High court.

The court heard that on the 23rd of June this year Ponipate Bokadi stole $600 from a 58-year-old man in Nasinu who was returning home after his morning walk.

Bokadi and his accomplice had also assaulted the elderly man.

High court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says crimes of this nature are prevalent and has created insecurity and vulnerability in the society.

Bokadi who is married with a child has 8 previous conviction out of which seven are related to property crimes.

He will be eligible for parole after serving 7 years and 10 months sentence.
