Man jailed for stealing meat

A man has been jailed for two years for breaking into Fiji Meats in Lautoka and stealing almost $1,000 worth of meat.

32-year-old Sevania Ratulele Matairavula of Tomuka in Lautoka was convicted for breaking in with intent to commit theft and one count of theft in the High Court on November 2nd.

The court heard that at 1pm on June 25th this year, Matairavula and two others hired a private vehicle and went to Fiji Meats Office.

At the premises, Matairavula smashed the customer service entrance door with a stone, entered the building and stole meat good valued at $933.

The men were identified through the security camera footage. Nothing was recovered.

Matairavula, who works as a security guard at the Lautoka Hospital, will serve 18 months before he is eligible for parole.
