A 37 year-old father has been jailed for raping his daughter on different occasions in 2012 and again in August this year.
The Court heard the man began this horrific crime against the victim in 2012 when she was just 6-years-old.
The victims’ mom passed away last year and he committed the offence again in August this year.
He threatened the girl not to tell anyone.
However, she reported the matter to her grandmother who then informed police.
In passing sentence, High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe said the social enigma of abusing children for sexual gratification needs to be addressed promptly and effectively, not only through the judicial process but also through effective social intervention.
The man will be eligible for parole after serving 14 years.
