A 32-year-old man has been jailed for 9-years for raping his cousin in Nausori in January 2013.

The Suva High Court heard the accused was drinking grog with the victim and a few others at her aunt’s place.

They continued drinking grog until the next morning and then decided to drink home brew.

After the drinking session, the accused and the victim were walking alone, when he pushed her to the ground and punched her as a result she became unconscious.

During this time he raped the victim.

Judge Justice Vincent Perera says rape is an offence orchestrated by lowly desire, selfishness, and sense of authority and power.

The accused is eligible to be released on parole after he serves six years of sentence.
