Man jailed after being convicted of aggravated robbery

A man who was convicted of one count of aggravated robbery has been sentenced to thirteen years and four months of imprisonment by the Suva High Court.

Saula Vunivesi committed the offense on September 7th last year.
Vunivesi and two other men approached the complainant when he was coming out from a shop.

He punched the complainant on his face and stole his mobile phone and money while the other two men were holding the complainant from behind.
After this they fled the scene.

Vunivesi had forty one other convictions.

Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe said offenses of this nature are prevalent in our society.

The Judge said it is the duty of the court to ensure that convicts of these types of offenses face heavy punishment.

The man is eligible to apply for parole after serving eleven years and four months imprisonment.
