Man found innocent on two counts of rape

A man has been found innocent of two counts of rape after Judge Salesi Temo, who ruled in favour of the majority of the assessors, found the accused not guilty.

The 26-year-old man was accused of raping his step-sister in 2011 when he visited her home.

The complainant, a 20-year-old, says she did not tell anyone of the incident because she was afraid of angering her father and causing trouble in the home.
The accused allegedly repeated this act on July last year after which she told her sister what has happened and a nurse.

However, in his ruling Judge Temo says the prosecution failed the accused’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt thus the benefit of the doubt must go to the accused.
