The High Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man of Narocake Village in Rewa to 12 years for raping and defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The Court heard that the convict raped the girl on two occasions.
On 3rd September 2010, he grabbed the girl when she was returning from the washroom outside her home and raped her.
Two months later on 25th November, he entered the victim’s bedroom and had sexual intercourse with her.
The girl was later forced to take part in a bulubulu or traditional apology and had to sign a declaration withdrawing her complaint.
However, in Court she admitted signing the declaration without knowing its contents and gave evidence against the convict.
The man’s sentence demands a non parole period of 10 years.
