Man cops 12 years and 10 months for raping a boy

A 20-year-old man convicted of raping a 15-year-old boy in Nasinu earlier this year has copped 12 years and 10 months sentence by the Suva High Court.

High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe convicted the man of one count of rape.

The offence was committed on January 1st in Nasinu.

The accused and the victim were known to each other.

Justice Rajasinghe says the incident has adversely affected the boy’s education and his relationship with his family members.

The court heard that the boy was sleeping in his room while his family members were drinking grog outside.

The accused entered the boy’s room and committed the offence.

The court heard the man threatened the victim as well.

Justice Rajasinghe says the accused actions has denied the boy a natural growth.

The man will spend 10 years and 10 months sentence before being eligible for parole.

A permanent Domestic violence restraining order has also been issued.
